Notice from Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light (MNIPL)

The new federal budget legislation that became law on July 4 makes changes to the 30% solar tax credit at the end of 2025. Additional impacts may have been made by an Executive Order that came on July 7.
More clarity in regards the impacts of the executive order will be available by August 17, but in any case, the 30% solar tax credit available to your congregation or nonprofit will end in its current form on December 31, 2025.
The sooner you act, the more likely you are to have the federal government pay for 30% of your solar system.
YES, even though your community of faith, conscience, or spiritual practice or nonprofit does not pay taxes, you are eligible for this 30% tax credit (called Direct Pay) under the current Inflation Reduction Act provisions.
But you need to act quickly!
If you "significantly begin construction" on a system installation this year, your project will qualify as having begun construction in 2025, thus "Safe Harboring" this 30% tax credit. MNIPL has helped more than 24 congregations and nonprofits install solar. We have trusted installers and financing options and can help you.

If you are inquiring for the first time, your first step will be to collect 12 consecutive months of electric bills. We need the actual copies of the bills. This allows us to give you an accurate initial design with 30-year financial projections.
Thank you,
